【摘要】:ThisBritishStandardspecifiestheUK7-bitcodedcharactersetwhichisderivedfromtheISO7-bitcodedcharactersetasdescribedinBSISO/IEC646:1991.ThisstandardspecifiesacharactersetforgeneraluseintheUK,includingcontrolcharacters,letters,digits,punctuationsignsandothersymbols,thecodedrepresentationofeachcharacter,andtheacronymsforthecontrolcharactersoftheset.ThefunctionalcharacteristicsofthecontrolcharactersofthesetarenotspecifiedherebutarespecifiedinBS7204:1989(identicalwithISO6429:1988).Thecharactersetmayberegardedasabasicalphabetinanabstractsense,applicabletoallRomanalphabets.Itisprimarilyintendedfortheinterchangeofinformation,bothnationallyandinternationally,betweendataprocessingsystemsandassociationequipment,andforuseinmessagetransmissionsystems.Thisstandardmakesprovisionforthedirectrepresentationof128characters,eachrepresentedbya7-bitpattern,andprovidesfacilitiesforcodeextensionforusewhenits128charactersareinsufficientforaparticularapplication.ThecodespecifiedinthisstandardisfullyinconformitywithISO/IEC646:1991byexercisingtheoptionspermittedinthatstandard(see8.3ofBSISO/IEC646:1991).Thefountdesignofthecharactersisnotspecifiedinthisstandard.
